Pinterest is one of the best and most interesting discovery and cataloguing tools on the Internet; and one of the fastest growing social networks. It has more than 70 million active users, who are 80 percent women (Source: DMR).
Many marketers have heard of Pinterest, but still haven’t hopped on the one of the hottest social networks. In contrast, many marketers are using it, but still can’t get the most of it.
Consider these four tips when creating your Pinterest strategy
For those who are looking to develop a strong Pinterest presences, here are four simple tips to try.
1. Verify your website on your Pinterest profileA verified website URL is as good as a verified Twitter account (if you are a brand), and is an important step in building your following. It’s fairly simple to verify your website URL and it’s a big step toward building trust with your existing and future followers.
When your website is verified on Pinterest, people see a checkmark next to your website URL on your Pinterest profile. It helps your profile to stand out in search results.
In addition to creating trust, verifying your profile gives you access to Pinterest’s analytics. In your analytics dashboard, you can study how your pins are doing and what’s working and what’s not. Knowing these, you can make the necessary changes in order to improve your user engagement by giving them what they’re looking for.
2. Make it a theme, not product promotion board
Pinterest is centred around interests, such as sports teams, fashion, cars, home décor, gifts, colours, recipes, etc. Use these themes to leverage your own pins. Create boards with themes and moods, not just a board to promote your own pins (product/service/content).The boards should convey the mood, rather than just looking like your products look book. Spread your own pins through out your board(s), and make sure you’re mixing your pins with external content.
Here’s an example from one of my Pinterest boards – Red Devils. It has a red theme and it’s centred around Manchester United (a sports team – an interest). It’s also a mix of my own pins and external content. You can also use your theme’s Hashtags in your pins’ description to make them more discoverable Pinterest.
3. Use rich pins
Rich pins are Pins that include extra information right on the pin itself. They give you the ability to add more details to your pins. At the moment, there are five types of Rich Pins: movie, article, recipe, product and place.
A regular pin only has a description of the pin in the comment field, however, a Rich Pin includes a clean title, and makes sure the detailed information of the pin doesn’t get changed or removed.
The above image is an example of a Rich Pin. This one is a recipe example from Pinterest. You can see the detailed information about the recipe on the pin, and not on the comment section.
4. Taller images are more repinnable
